Checking Cows

It is that time of year again, and I am not just talking about spring, but the other thing that comes with spring, no not just the green grass, and the birds, and the sun, although it is nice to have all of that back. I am talking about calving season, the time where my dad gets up about 4 times during the night to check the cows, in fact just yesterday he had 18 calves, yep I think it is safe to say that calving is definitely here. Well since my dad stays up all night to check the cows, someone else usually takes the shifts before dark. So I decide to take my turn and go and check the cows, well I am all calm until about the minute I get to the gate, even though I have grown up around cows my whole life, I get scared when I have to go check the cows, not just because they are about 10 times my size and could kill me if they think I am a threat...well actually that is way they scare me! First of all before you laugh to hard, we have the Heifers at our house, those are the cows that have never calved before, so they are a little nervous to begin with, oh and that thing about how they can sense fear, it's true. So most people just go out and walk through the cows and it is no big deal, I on the other hand, walk all the way around the fence, climb up a snow bank and observes the cows from a distance. I do actually go into the fence, I just scurry from the chopped hay wagon, to the water fountain, to the hay ring, stopping by my favorite rock and anything else that provides shelter, then back to the snow bank that I entered on. And that is how I check cows, the worse part about it is every time I go out I tell myself that I am not going to be afraid but every time I do the same thing!

Well just to verify my fears, I am pretty sure this is cow that wanted to kill me!

Close by mommas side
Due to the fact the I don' t really get all that close to the cows the picture is a little blurry. But you can clearly see the whole motherly protective instinct going on, I was on top of a broken down feed ring and she was still starring me down!

Happy 19th Birthday! Since the trend is to share some little known facts I might as well put some out there too:

* She hates tomato soup, Vanilla, and Coffee.
*Before her accident she could sleep until noon, now she is up at 6:30, or earlier, most of the time.
*She donated 13 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, when she was 11. And plans to do it again.
*She is a sucker for love stories.
*She can never sit still, and is a cleaning freak!
*When she was making pancakes one time she made every smoke alarm in the house go off, but now she cooks very well.
* She has more clothes in her room then she knows what to do with!

Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Duke

I would like every one to meet my new puppy dog, although he doesn't look like a puppy he is only about three. And the biggest baby ever, and what you see in the picture is what he looks like about 80% of the time, he is seriously the most mellow, or maybe just lazy, black lab I have ever seen. About the only time he isn't mellow is when he is getting a bath, my logic tells me that black labs would like a bath because they like water, but I guess he thinks differently, because trying to hold a 80 pound dog in the tub, when he wants out, is about as easy as getting my car unlocked after I locked my keys in. [smile]
Well at least our personalities mix well! We have no problem getting along expect he made my hand fall a sleep! :)
We would worry less about what others think of us if we realized how seldom they do.

Pictures!

Well as for those pictures I promised!

My first Nebraska sunset. I hope there are many more in my future! I think sunsets are so pretty but every time I see one I can only marvel in the works of God, I mean he made this earth in 6 days, and look how beautiful it is. Yet, he had been preparing a place for me in heaven for over 2,000 years, I can't even begin to image what that will look like!

A picture of Curtis, I think it is the Golf Coarse. I like the blue sky in the background, I could really get used to those kind of winters. :)

I think the bird liked my Dad, when Devin, our tour guide tried to take him away, he puffed up his feathers and tired to bite him! He did not want to leave my Dad. It was very funny.

A little bit of the Curtis country side. The tour was really cool, we were there for 3 1/2 hours! it was a little long but very cool, and just in, I was awarded 3 scholarships from NCTA, I was very surprised, but delighted, the Lord works in mysterious ways!

After the tour we went to my Aunt and Uncles house in Sterling, Colorado. This is my cousin Mike and his wife Julie, I caught her a little off guard. [grin]

My little cousin Bailey and her puppy Berkley, the Basset Hound. We are dog people, my Aunt and Uncle have 3, Mike and Julie have 2, Bailey has another dog besides Berkley, and Tanja has a black lab.

Ahh, family times, my Brother Michael, and my cousin Tanja, and in the back ground working hard, is my aunt Lenny.

My sister Kim and my cousin Tanja, This is from our little (girls) outing to Cabela's, those were some fun times.

And of course this blog wouldn't be complete with out Uncle Ron.

There was a lot of napping going on this weekend.

Well my computer is no longer letting me post pictures, I am thinking it is a sign from God telling me to got to bed! [smile] But I will post more when I have time.

Excitement

We just got our new computer up and running and I finally got to log on to my blog! Well this means I can now post pictures, now if only I could find my the camera [smile] I know it's around here some where. Also we got a new dog while we where in Colorado, he was a stray that my Uncle and Aunt took in but they all ready had 3 dogs and couldn't keep him so we brought him home, his name is Duke and he is a 3 or 4 year old black lab, he is adorable, and already a big part of the family.

What a week!

Last week was a little difficult, we got home from Colorado at about 9:30 on Monday night. Well I had some stuff to get done before I could go to bed from being gone all weekend. So I didn't get to bed until about 11. Well I had to get up at 5:00 to get to school on time for our trip to Bismarck to sit in on the legislature. Well I didn't get up at 5 because I like my sleep a little to much so I was rushing around the house and was almost late! It is a good thing I like sitting in the front of the bus.[smile] Well the trip was fun and I was able to sit with Senator Robert Erbele during the Senate session, that was very cool! Well we got back to Ashley a little after 4 and I was so tired I wanted to go home and take a nap before drama practice, well I get home and realize that I forgot my brother in town, AGAIN! But this time it really wasn't my fault- see my mom left me a note on my locker and I didn't go to my locker so I didn't get the note.(ooops!) So I went back in to get Michael, so there was no nap for me. Well then Wednesday, was my first day of actually school to work and the vet clinic. And I locked BOTH sets of keys in my car! It took 3 locksmiths and a trip to Wishek to get it open! (Thanks to Reece who was a great sport about the whole thing.) Well we got my car opened and I was only 10 min. late for work at the Nursing Home, but Missy understood and thought the story was rather funny! To top it all off that day I had a 2 page paper to write on the Death Penalty, due on Thursday. Well I was up until 11 doing my paper when I decided to go to bed, much because I was falling a sleep at the computer; well I didn't have it done so I was up at 4 in the morning! To get it done, the only possible thing left to go wrong was the printer dieing on me - and luckily that didn't happen. WOW!!! Thursday was a long day, and to make it better I had another paper due on Friday about our trip to Bismarck! I was up until about 11 p.m., but this time I slept through my alarm clock that went off at 4 a.m. and woke up at 6:30! And I still had another page to write, well I didn't even think about making it to school on time. So I finished my paper and was in school a half hour late. Then on Saturday I had my first speech meet ever! I due to my alarm clock not going off I was almost late! Saturday was another long day. Sunday really didn't slow down much either, i went to church in Oakes with my cousins and then Micki, Brandi and I went to Valley City to the Rodeo at the Winter Show. That was more of a relaxed day, but I didn't get a lot of sleep, so I was a little tired.

This was me half way through the week, until I realized that God would never give me more then I can handle and all I have to do is cling to his word and he will help me through it all! What a great relief it was to let it all go and just trust that he will be there and let him take care of it!
